BHL! BHL!

Last Wednesday the French intellectual figure Bernard-Henri Levy presented in Sarajevo his film ˝Bosna!˝ 1994) followed by another short movie ˝Un jour dans la mort de Sarajevo˝ (1993). He announced that there would be a debate in between both as many of the characters of the first film were present that night (including Gal. Divjak who got an ovation). Instead of a debate we got a speech from the man in the white shirt himself. He shared a funny anecdote. Sometime during the Bosnian war he had managed to get Alija Izetbegović then president of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Paris and took him to a public projection of the film ˝Bosna!˝. The audience was shouting ˝BHL! BHL! short for Bernard-Henri Levy as he is called in France. Izetbegović remarked humorously that they probably meant ˝Bosnie Herzégovine Libre˝ or ˝Free Bosnia Herzegovina˝!
Without being fans, BHL is in our minds the first in France who was vocal in denouncing the war in Bosnia and trying to get public opinion to care. So hats off!

Mercredi dernier, l'intellectuel français Bernard-Henri Lévy présentait à Sarajevo son film ˝Bosna!˝(1994) suivi d'un autre court ˝Un jour dans la mort de Sarajevo˝ (1993). Il avait annoncé un débat entre les deux films puisque certains personnages du film étaient présents dans la salle (y compris le Général Divjak qui fut ovationné). En fait de débat, nous avons eu droit à un discours enflammé de l'homme à la chemise blanche. Il a aussi partagé une anecdote amusante. Pendant la guerre de Bosnie, il avait réussi à faire venir Alija Izetbegović, alors président de la Bosnie-Herzégovine à Paris et assistait avec lui à la projection publique du film ˝Bosna!˝. La salle scandait ˝BHL! BHL!˝. Izetbegović avait alors dit malicieusement ˝Ils veulent probablement dire Bosnie Herzégovine Libre!˝
Sans être fans, BHL reste pour nous la première voix que nous ayons entendue dénoncer la guerre en Bosnie et essayer de sensibiliser l'opinion publique. Alors chapeau bas!
