Snow? Neige?

While the North of Europe is snowed in we're waiting for it! 

Alors que le nord de l'Europe est sous la neige, nous l'attendons! 

We're back. Nous sommes de retour.

We're back in Bosnia and we're happy we missed the gas cuts by Russia since our heating is full gas powered. But we're also sad because our neighbour Hamdija died as an indirect result of these cuts. His old electric heater he had put on fell during the night and burnt his carpet. He died few days later from the intoxication by the fumes. He was 78 years old and a staunch supporter of Yugoslav socialism and admirer of anything Russian. He was buried in the Bare cemetery in the Atheist section according to his wish. He was a nice man and we miss him.

Nous sommes de retour en Bosnie et sommes contents d'avoir évité les coupures de gaz par la Russie puisque notre chauffage est au gaz. Nous sommes aussi tristes parce que notre voisin Hamdija est mort de ce fait. Il avait mis en marche son radiateur électrique antédiluvien qui est tombé pendant la nuit et a brulé son tapis. Il est mort plusieurs jours plus tard de l'intoxication due aux fumées. Il avait 78 ans, était un ardent supporter du socialisme yougoslave et un admirateur de la Russie. Il est enterré au cimetiere de Bare dans la section des athées selon ses voeux. C'était un homme bon et il nous manque.

Wild medicinal herbs - Plantes médicinales sauvages

It doesn't take long in Bosnia to realise that people here commonly use a wide range of medicinal plants to cure anything. One of these is Wild Thyme Thymus serpyllum (and not Thymus vulgaris used in Provencal cooking). It is antiseptic, antispasmodic and great for cough. It is called here ˝Majčina Dušica˝, the ˝Soul of my mother˝. Much more poetic!

On se rend rapidement compte que les Bosniens utilisent un grand nombre de plantes médicinales pour guérir toutes sortes de maux. Une des plantes communément utilisée est le thym sauvage ou Serpolet, Thymus serpyllum (et non Thymus vulgaris utilisé dans la cuisine provencale). Il a des propriétés antiseptiques, expectorantes et antispasmiques. Il est ici appellé ˝Majčina Dušica˝, ˝l´âme de ma mère˝.  Plus poétique!

Stanišići - Bijeljinja

The ethno-village of Stanišići has been created in 2003 by Boris Stanišic hence the name! He gathered traditional wooden houses of Bosnia containing tools and utensils of every day rural life and built replicas of famous churches, bridges etc.. It something like a miniature Bosnia. This is a place just like we love: a bit kitsch, extravagant and totally out of this world. Jasna Dragicević our tourist and photographer friend who shared her pictures with us for this blog says that the home fresh cream in the restaurant is simply divine!

L' ethno-village de Stanišići a été créé de toutes pieces en 2003 par Boris Stanišic d'où

 le nom! Il a réuni des maisons en bois traditionelles de Bosnie contenant les objets de la vie rurale ainsi que construit des reproductions d'églises orthodoxes célèbres, ponts etc.... Bref, une sorte de Bosnie miniature. Voici un endroit comme on les aime, un peu kitsch, extravagant et totalement dépaysant. Jasna Dragicević notre copine touriste et photographe qui nous a envoyé les photos pour le blog nous a dit que en plus la crème fraîche maison du restaurant est divine!
